Lesser Spotted Eagle shot on Malta

Although illegal, a Lesser Spotted Eagle was shot during migration on Malta. The Lesser Spotted Eagle is a rare eagle species which has declined in several European countries, for example in Germany.
One of the threats is the illegal killing of eagles during migration.

Members of BirdLife Malta’s Raptor Camp teams witnessed the shooting of the eagle.

This is not the first Lesser Spotted Eagle that was killed on Malta during the last years.
It is sad that rare and endangered species are killed “just for fun” by some hunters.

More information about the incident can be found on the website of Birdlife Malta:

I want to thank everyone from Birdlife Malta and everyone else who is (or was) on Malta and helps to fight this senseless killing of eagles and other birds.
