Falcons

European Falcons

There are currently 11 types of falcons in Europe, all of which belong to the genus Falco. Compared to other European raptors, most European falcons are small raptors, although some of them (including the Gyrfalcon, Saker Falcon, and Peregrine Falcon) reach the dimensions of a medium-sized raptor.

Most falcon species are highly skilled and fast aerial hunters. In fact, the Peregrine Falcon is the fastest animal in the world, and can reach a maximum speed of 390 km/h when it stoops down on its prey from a great height.
